On March 16, 2008, monks from Ragya Monastery and local people held a protest and performed a puja (prayer ceremony) for those killed at nearby Kirti Monastery. Police surrounded the monastery and threatened the use of force if the ceremony was not stopped (Tib: རྨ་ཆེན། Ch: 玛沁县 Maqin County, Qinghai Province).
